It has been my sincere pleasure to work with my fellow school board trustees, our superintendent, and the entire community to ensure Pleasanton schools continue to receive high marks from students, parents, and residents, as well as work to improve on the already outstanding education our teachers and schools provide.

These are among the accomplishments our schools have achieved since my election in 2016.

Board Accomplishments

  • Employment and retention of high-quality teachers, staff, and administrators
  • Stability of school principals with a greater than 90 percent retention rate for the 2020–2021 school year
  • Harmonious dialogue among administration, unions, and employee associations
  • Support for alternative learning opportunities, including online education, Middle College, traditional learning, independent study, and ROP
  • Improved child nutrition department
  • Trust among community members, parents, and students for positive dialogue with school board trustees
  • Support of remote learning. Though still a work in progress, every student has access to a Chromebook, which puts our district ahead of many local districts.
  • I1 bond measure projects currently underway:
    • Lydiksen modernization includes new classroom buildings, new parking lots, and relocation of the Kids Club building
    • New fencing at Fairlands, Hearst, Pleasanton Middle, Harvest Park, and Mohr
    • New science buildings for Amador and Foothill (both projects are out for bid with construction anticipated to start in the fall)
    • New security and phone systems for all schools
    • New heating/air conditioning and new roofs for numerous schools
  • Other building improvements not covered by I1 funds:
    • Harvest Park library reconstruction (fall completion expected)
    • New paint at Amador, Pleasanton Middle, and Vintage Hills. The district plans to paint three schools each year using three coats of high-quality Kelly Moore paint
    • Solar panels installed at Amador Valley High school
    • School grounds being refurbished this fall at Amador, Foothill, Hart, and Hearst

Personal Accomplishments as School Board Trustee

  • Fostered collaboration between city and school district leaders
  • Served on city-district liaison committee
  • Assisted with the hiring of and initiated the stringent vetting process for our current superintendent, currently serving in his fourth year
  • Requested district to start program to track the progress and outcomes for students who have needed multiple years of intervention
  • Donated entire school board salary, roughly $20,000, to district programs, including clubs, classroom support, and at-risk student programs
  • Audit committee member to ensure the district’s ongoing fiscal responsibility
  • Strong supporter of Go Green initiative
  • Communicating regularly with the community via my open-door policy

Pleasanton schools continue to rank high on the private NICHE website, where people rate their communities.

  • Pleasanton ranked #11 for best California school district
  • Pleasanton ranked #1 district in Alameda County
  • Amador Valley ranked #1 high school in Alameda County
